NEWS FOR JULY 2010

Comstock and Galesburg Boosters Plan Joint Fundrasier

On Saturday September 11th, the Comstock Athletic Boosters and the Galesburg-Augusta Boosters will be holding a joint fundraiser at Galesburg Ford located on Michigan Ave. in Comstock Township. During this one day event, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 for every person that test drives a new car. There is no commitment and no sales pressure during this event. The object for Ford is to expose as many people as possible to the new generation Ford cars and trucks during the day while giving back to the community.

The Comstock Boosters thought it would be fun to include the Galesburg Boosters and turn this into a friendly backyard competition to see which school can get the most people into Galesburg Ford to test drive a car. Each participant that test drives a car will simply declair which school they want the $20 donation from Ford to go to. The goal has been set at 150 test drives for each school. Both booster organizations will be on-site during the day and are planning other activities as well. More information to follow. Click the link below to learn more about this event.

Comstock Soccer Camps

The Comstock High School soccer coaches will be holding summer soccer camps for all Comstock students free of charge at the NEMS athletic field. These camps are highly recommended for all Comstock soccer athletes. Athletes need to bring water, ball, shin guards, soccer shoes, and comfortable clothing.

High School, Transition, and Keeper camps:

o High school boys and girls conditioning: June 21st - July 2nd and July 12th - July 23rd (Mon, Wed, Fri) 4 to 6PM
o Transition Camp for incoming 8th and 9th grade boys and girls: July 12th - 16th from 2 to 4PM
o Keeper Camp for all middle and high school boys and girls: July 12th - 16th from 4 to 6PM
o High School Boys Soccer Camp: July 19th - 23rd from 2 to 4PM

Elementary and Middle School Girls camps:

o Elementary grades 3rd -5th boys and girls: week of July 26th – 30th from 5 to 6:30PM
o Middle School Girls: July 26th – 30th from 7 to 8:30PM

Comstock Schools Tax Millages

The Comstock Board of Education will be asking voters in the Comstock Public School District for the passage of two property tax millages this summer.
The first millage is a renewal of the 5 year sinking fund that will be used to continue facility improvement throuout the district. The second millage is a short term bond that will be used to purchase desks, chairs, write boards, books, computers, and buses. The total cost of both millages will be equal to what tax payers are currently paying with the two millages that are expiring, so property owners will not see any increase in their proprty taxes with the passage of these millages.

Stadium Reserved Seating

Reserved seating will be offered for the 2010-11 school year. The football season kicks off on August 26^th vs. Vicksburg. We only have about 150 seats left and they are along the 50 yard line. The cost is $5 per seat for the year and the proceeds will be used to help fund the Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet and Awards. Please support Comstock Athletics and our Hall of Fame Banquet by purchasing your reserved seat today.

Athletic Event Workers Needed

We are starting to coordinate our worker schedule for the 2010-2011 school year. Some of the areas where we need help are working the front gate ticket desk, running the clock, scoring the book, timing for track meets, and announcing.

All workers receive an annual family athletics pass. Senior citizens receive a lifetime athletics pass.

Fall Sports Start Date & Physicals

Practice for the Fall HS sports season will begin on August 9^th for Football and August 11^th for Volleyball, Girl’s Golf, Boy’s Soccer, Boy’s Tennis, and Cross Country.

Practice for NEMS Volleyball and Cross Country will begin on August 23^rd. Start times for all sports will be posted soon.

All athletes must have a physical on file to participate. If you have not had a physical yet, physicals are set for August 3^rd from 6-7pm at the high school.

Summer Softball League

Lisa Kiino is looking for interested softball players from the age of 11 through 13 to play in a summer softball league starting the middle of June and will run through the end of July.

2010 Comstock Football Camp

Comstock Varsity Coach Caleb Fisher and his staff will be hosting a football camp for all Comstock students entering grades 7-12. The camp will be held at ComstockHigh School on the football practice fields behind the high school on July 15, 16, & 17 from 8:00AM to 2:00PM. The cost is $35 per student.

2010 Comstock Volleyball Camp

Comstock Varsity Coach Amanda Rizor and her staff will be putting on a 4^th-9^th grade volleyball camp from July 19^th through July 22^nd at ComstockHigh School.

The cost for 4^th-6^th graders is $20 and 7^th-9^th graders is $30. A campT-shirt is included in the cost.
